Blackfive notes that Sports Illustrated is running a fan poll for "Sportsman of the Year". Blackfive urges you vote for Pat Tillman, and I couldn't agree more.

In an year when professional sports has given us such noble examples of sportsmanship as Ron Artest and Ricky Williams, a man who was willing to sacrifice fame and fortune for a greater cause that he believed in deserves our support. Currently, Pat is in third place behind Lance Armstrong and Michael Phelps. While I support the achievements of both of those men (especially Lance Armstrong) I think Pat Tillman's example shines above the rest. Take a second and vote for a great American who made the ultimate sacrifice for us all.

Val Prieto at Babalu Blog has noted this pathetic attempt to kiss dictator ass. I had no idea there were people as idiotic as this Walter Lippmann.

I note that in his pile of nonsense, Lippmann uses an official statement from the Cuban government offering somewhat less than heartfelt condolences to the United States upon President Reagan's passing.  Lippmann seems to be saying that if the Cuban government can offer condolences, then the United States should be able to as well, all in the interests of chivalry and good manners, I guess.  I suspect he forgot about this:

In the first reaction to Reagan's death from the communist government, Radio Reloj said this, ``As forgetful and irresponsible as he was, he forgot to take his worst works to the grave,'' the government radio station said. "He, who never should have been born, has died,'' the radio said.

Take Val's advice and write Fidel a note. I know that every political prisoner being tortured in a Cuban jail would appreciate your politeness and courtesy. 

Calm Down Fringy People!

Ok folks, things are getting a little out of hand on the fringes. On the left, you've got protests in SF and the NYT publishing articles about Presidential assasination.  On the right, you've got this dude, using the worst of red state extremism to advocate expelling the blue states.  (He says it is Swiftian satire, but it sure doesn't read that way to me. Just calling it satire doesn't make it so.)

Calm down fringy people! It is one thing to disagree, it is another thing to take to the streets and write this kind of rhetoric. Not that I think it is your intent to do good things, but I feel compelled to note that this nonsense is not constructive.

This sounds suspiciously like a conspiracy theory to me, but maybe somebody in the MSM will earn their money and confirm it. I wonder how fundamentalist Islam would react if this were true?

Somebody Needs to Cry.

A very humorous take on the moonbat wing's meltdown. I'm still waiting for Alec Baldwin to move to France.

A friend of mine just called to tell me there is woman in a black cloak walking up and down the street by his house holding a Kerry/Edwards sign. She's been doing this for quite a while now. I guess she's in mourning.

Ha Ha.

To quote Nelson Muntz, "Ha! Ha!".

I should note that Nelson's taunting Ha! Ha! is directed solely at Mr. Moore and not at Sen. Kerry, who has decided to do the honorable thing and concede, instead of prolonging this mess with litigation. Thank you Sen. Kerry.

Here We Go

I'm watching the returns and it's like the top of a roller coaster and my stomach is in knots. It will be a long night. In the meantime, here's a story from Blackfive about how he had difficulties voting here in Chicago.

Vote

It is one of the most important responsibilities we have as citizens.

Aristotle puts it best:

"If liberty and equality, as is thought by some are chiefly to be found in democracy, they will be best attained when all persons alike share in the government to the utmost."

UPDATE: Just got done voting myself. The poll workers told me that more people in my precinct had voted by 7am than had voted all day in the last election.

A Reminder

In the first Presidential debate, John Kerry said this:

With respect to Iran, the British, French, and Germans were the ones who initiated an effort without the United States, regrettably, to begin to try to move to curb the nuclear possibilities in Iran. I believe we could have done better. I think the United States should have offered the opportunity to provide the nuclear fuel, test them, see whether or not they were actually looking for it for peaceful purposes. If they weren't willing to work a deal, then we could have put sanctions together.

I was so stunned that a serious Presidential candidate could publicly show such a lack of perception of foreign policy, I nearly fell out of my chair. He seriously suggested that we just give nuclear materials to Iran. Yet, in the days and weeks afterwards, very little was said about this specific comment in the MSM. I had sort of forgotten that he said it.

Today, I saw this post at INDC Journal and I was again reminded of how dangerous that statement was. Just on that comment alone, I can't see how anybody could vote for John Kerry. They are not playing around here, folks, and neither should we.

Tell it to the Marines

Terrorism a "nuisance"? Well, tell it to the Marines.

Thankfully, the Marines still remember 9-11 and always will. A new USMC anti-terror battalion was activated last Friday. The image to the left is their unit crest.

The crest clearly evokes the memory of the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, the fields next to the Pentagon represent the fields of Pennsylvania. The Roman numerals are also a clear reminder of the purpose of the AT Battalion. The four arrows represent the 4 aircraft that went down on 9/11 and are also a symbol of military readiness. The clenched fist is a sign of aggression and a symbol of leadership, strength and unity.

I, for one, am glad that some hard charging Marines (and sailors, soldiers and airmen, for that matter) are keeping the memory of 9-11 in the correct perspective and that someday a terrorist will find himself at the pointy end of one of those arrows.
